HCG Side Effects – Muscle Weakness

Dr. A.T.W. Simeons, who created the hCG diet protocol in the 1950s, published the first edition of his landmark book, Pounds and Inches, in 1954. His final revision was published in 1971, in which he explained what happens during exercising while on the hCG diet protocol.

On Muscular Fatigue

As you approach the end of a full course of the protocol, between 23 and 43 days long, a good deal of fat has already been lost. At that point many people notice that exercise requires a greater effort than before. It is especially noticeable when lifting weights or climbing stairs. I have also noticed it when running long distances, whereby I run slower and not as far during the protocol.

It is not a feeling of breathlessness or exhaustion. It is just that muscles have to work harder. Even people who are already working out regularly, and are otherwise fit except for excess fat, have this experience. (Note that so many people do regular workouts and are otherwise seemingly fit yet still carry too much abnormal fat. This says a lot about the near uselessness of most forms of exercise for weight loss.)

The phenomenon of muscle weakness during the hCG protocol is caused by the removal of abnormal fat that had been deposited in and around the muscles. Removing this fat causes the muscles to become longer. This translates into a need for greater contraction to achieve certain movements during weightlifting, running, and other types of exercise.

Fortunately, the weakness is temporary and disappears quickly once the protocol has been completed. Normally muscles can adapt quickly to such changes. However, the loss of fat is so fast during the hCG protocol that muscles are incapable of keeping up with it.

So be reassured that, should you observe this phenomenon, you are not getting weak. You are only experiencing a delay in the muscle changes that must occur when fat deposits around muscle tissue are removed so rapidly.

Not everyone experiences this phenomenon. The most likely people to observe it are those who begin exercising during the protocol or those whose workouts are not very intense in the first place.

The bottom line is that removing fat from where too much has accumulated is a bit of a shock to the body and requires some time for adjusting to it. Muscle weakness is, therefore, a temporary symptom of hCG side effects that goes away soon after ending the protocol.

Best Exercise During the Protocol

If you insist on doing at least some exercise during the protocol. The best one is simply rebound exercise. Get a minitrampoline and bounce on it for about 10 minutes per day. You do not have to get crazy and jump so high that you risk injury. In fact, your feet don’t even have to clear the surface. Just bounce up and down gently each day.

The reason that this type of exercise is so effective, even though it doesn’t seem to do much, is that it stimulates your lymphatic system to keep moving lymph fluid. This is a key function of your body for removing waste, including metabolic waste from fat. Your lymphatic system is not equipped with active pumping mechanisms, so your body movement is crucial for keeping the fluid moving.

Rebounding exercises may even speed up your results. At the very least, such simple workouts will keep you at a basic level of fitness until you can resume your regular, higher intensity workouts, after the protocol.
